  • remember to evaluate the website - who wrote it? when was it written? etc. See CRAAP criteria for more information.
  • in Google, use AND to connect keywords (like: kite flying AND Afghanistan)

CIA World Factbook - choose Afghanistan from drop down list of countries; good for information about geography, politics, economy

Amnesty International - hard to search on their website, so instead use Google and search: amnesty AND women AND taliban

Tips for online searching:

  • Use quotation marks around an exact phrase: "American dream" "sports hero" 
  • Use AND to find results with both search words anywhere
  • Break big topics into smaller subtopics and use synonyms: "family size", "sex roles"
  • Use Ctrl+F to find a word(s) in an article or webpage
  • Extra tips:
    • Use the side toolbars in the databases to find relevant results (Books, Topic Overviews)
    • Find the subject term if the search words you use are not working well
