Library Spaces
SMHS Library Learning Commons Area Seating for approx. 60

The LLC includes 8 school desktop computers, a printer (black ink only), a device charging station, and 7 table-mounted TVs for students to hook up devices so they can collaborate on group work. The librarian has a selection of cables for this purpose.
  • The library does not have Chromebooks to lend out for class use. Students must bring their own devices to use in the library, or they can use a school desktop computer.
  • For staff to reserve this space: please use this form.
    • Please enter your reservation at least 24 hours before your planned visit. We have a large school population and want to ensure equitable access to the library.
    • On the form please include whether your class needs the 8 desktop computers, as well as other relevant details (e.g. whether you would like the librarian to do a research/citation presentation or library website/database demonstration for your class, or to pull materials related to your assignment).
    • Teachers must be present to supervise their class.

  • Teachers can request access to the Group Study Room during class visits but are required to supervise any students in the room.
  • For staff to reserve this space: please email me directly (Maryjo.kenny@wcdsb.ca).

KPL/SMHS Library Seminar Room Max capacity 70 (chairs only), 35-40 (with tables and chairs)

Other Library Activities
Book Exchanges

  • Please contact Ms. Kenny at least 24 hours before requesting a book exchange, as either she or KPL staff may have other previously scheduled activities in the library.
  • After signing out books, students can sit in the St. Mary's Learning Commons to read; the rest of the library seating is for KPL's community customers. The Learning Commons often has students on spare working in the space, so if you have a large group and wish to do this I recommend you also reserve the learning commons using the booking form.

Photography/Filming in the Library

  • Please send Ms. Kenny an email to notify her if students will be taking pictures or filming in the library so she can inform KPL staff as well.
  • To protect the privacy of others, students who are recording video/images must keep any staff, customers, or other students in the library out of their images unless they have asked that person’s permission directly.

Students on Spare

  • If all Learning Commons seating has been reserved for a class visit, an alternative workspace for students on spare are the tables outside of the cafeteria.
